The Teanaway Community Forest
On Oct. 1, 2013, the State of Washington purchased 50,000 acres of private timberland in the Teanaway Valley. With this purchase, the legislature established the Teanaway Community Forest, an important component of the Yakima Basin Integrated Plan. This is the first community forest in Washington State. It will be owned and managed by the Dept. of Natural Resources in collaboration with the Department of Fish and Wildlife. A 20-person advisory committee will help to establish guidelines for forest management and oversee the management of the new community forest.
